There were a number a people experiencing weird ads/popups when visiting some pages on our website, most notably on their mobile devices. While the exact cause is still being verified, we did identify many outdated, vulnerable plugins for the framework.
We explicitely deactivated and removed unwanted / unused plugins for which there were quiet a few. Due to the "free" nature of our web framework, many unverified plugins can unintentionally (or intentionally) expose us to an array of unexpected security vulnerabilities. Going forward, we have made the decision to not install any plugins that have less than ~100K or more install-base and have 80%+ of positive reviews.
We have upgraded and repaired all the remaining and necessary code and ran the site through a 3rd party vulnerability scanner, mitigating applicable findings from those scans. We'll continue to closely monitor the website for any abnormal activity and we promise to stay vigilant and proactively keep everything up to date to ensure best security posture given the known attack vectors with our particular web framework.
Thank you for your support in making our website safe and user-friendly. Please reach out to us with any concerns at any time regarding any web-related issues.
Sincerely,
EC Web-Team
