Core Values

Grace Encountered

We believe that life-changing grace is received through a genuine encounter with God . We hold to the following values:

1. Revelation

We believe God speaks to us through Biblical and relevant preaching and teaching. [2 Timothy 3:16]

2. Intimate Encounter

We believe that we should glorify God not from a distance, but through intimate encounters of worship on Sundays and other corporate gatherings. [Psalm 27, 42]

3. Transformation

We believe in transformation as people surrender every area of life unto the Lordship of Jesus Christ. [2 Corinthians 5:17]

4. Presence

We believe that prayer is the most important response to the presence of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit in the church. [Acts 1:14-2:4]

Grace Exchanged

We believe that to fully experience life-changing grace, it must not only be received, but also exchanged among his people. We hold to the following values:

1. Relationships

We believe that loving relationships should flow through every aspect of church life. [1 John 3:11-17]

2. Refuge

We believe in church as a hospital, where broken people can come as they are and find refuge and healing. [Matthew 11:28-30]

3. Household

We believe that church should be a spiritual household where there are diverse seasons of life, generations, and cultures. [Ephesians 2:19]

4. Body

We believe every member should build up the body of Christ with their God-given gifts. [1 Peter 4:10]

Grace Extended

We believe that life-changing grace never remains only among his people, but goes forth into the world. We hold to the following values:

1. To a broken community

We believe we are called to be ministers of grace to people immediately around us—to our friends, neighbors, coworkers, campuses, and to the DC metro area. [Matthew 5:13-14]

2. To a broken world

We believe that by going or sending, we become channels of grace to a broken world. [Matthew 28:18-20]

3. To the oppressed

We believe we are called to be champions of grace to the poor and oppressed. [Isaiah 61:1]

4. To a post-modern world

We are called to be translators of grace to a post-modern world. [1 Corinthians 9:22-23]

Mission

We seek to be Transformed as we Encounter, Exchange and Extend Grace

Statement of Faith

1. The Scripture:

We believe that the Scriptures of both Old and New Testaments constitute the inspired Word of God. We believe in its inerrancy, its entire trustworthiness, its completeness as a revelation of God's will for the salvation of men and women, and its divine and final authority for all matters of Christian faith and life.

2. The Trinity:

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three coequal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

3. Christ:

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true Man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Father, He now intercedes as our High Priest and Advocate.

4. The Holy Spirit:

We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit during this age is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, bring enlightenment and conviction concerning God's revealed truth, to regenerate the sinner, and to indwell, sanctify, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service.

5. Humankind:

We believe that men and women, created in the image of God, have fallen into sin and so are subject to God's wrath and condemnation, inwardly depraved, and apart from grace, incapable of returning to God.

6. Salvation:

We believe that the obedience and shed blood of Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, provide the only ground for the justification of all who believe, and that only such as receive Jesus Christ through faith are born of the Holy Spirit so as to become children of God.

7. The Church:

We believe in the unity and common priesthood of all true believers, who together form the one universal Church, the Body of which Christ is the Head.

8. The Return of Christ:

We believe in the imminent return of Christ to judge the world. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever to final condemnation and everlasting punishment.
